Introduction to the Honeybee
Take a journey into the fascinating life of the honeybee, discover the inner workings of the hive (with some hands-on experience).

You will leave with:
• an understanding of the life cycle of a queen, worker, and drone bee
• knowledge of the organization and social structure of the bee colony
• awareness of the tasks and responsibilities of each category of bee
• up close views of the activities taking place within the bee hive
• a feel for whether you would want to become a beekeeper yourself
• a greater appreciation of the obstacles that honeybees face, and the important role that they play in the production of the food that we eat.
Learning Outcomes of this Workshop
- You will learn amazing details related to how the honeybee lives, works, multiplies and ultimately dies. Watch queens, drones, and the intricacies of the hive, such as a new bee chewing out of its cell, a queen bee laying an egg, or a bee swarm in progress.
- You will discover the many amazing products that are produced by the honeybee, from the edible to the medicinal, including honey, wax, pollen, and more. You will explore the facts as well as the folklore that surround the bee colony.
- You will leave the workshop with a better sense of whether beekeeping is an interest that you would like to pursue, as a result of the experience and confidence gained from seeing what it is like to be in close contact with honeybees.

You will be able to gain insights and benefit from my experiences that have been collected over a lifetime of gardening, farming, and traveling to attend conferences and an assortment of sustainable agriculture training programs. You will quickly increase your knowledge and skills.
From cultivating gourmet mushrooms, growing food in high tunnels or under cover, beekeeping, winter gardening, foraging wild plants, and more, each workshop will guide you step-by-step and incorporate specific activities that will enable you to achieve amazing results within the fields of knowledge covered.

Meet your Gardening Mentor Kenny Point
The journey into vegetable gardening began in my childhood and never ended. Exploring nature and sharing my experiences has been a very rewarding path to travel. Organic gardening is an ongoing process with each season bringing a unique set of experiences and delightful surprises.
From my hometown of Washington D.C. to PA and WV, the constant theme has been a profound awareness of God's presence in the simplicity of a vegetable plot, where the forces of nature showcase His grandeur. This connection is a source of endless inspiration and encouragement.
My experiences include a Permaculture Design Certification, attended the Native Seed/SEARCH Seed School, soil science study with Elaine Ingham at the Rodale Farm Institute, a Wild Mushroom Safety Certification, and intensive trainings with the PA Association for Sustainable Agriculture (PASA), and numerous other organic agriculture programs across the US.
I have conducted agriculture workshops for the WV Dept of Agriculture Veterans & Heroes to Agriculture Program and for the WV Food and Farm Coalition. Received the Calhoun County WV outstanding conservation farm award in 2022, and was a presenter at the 2024 AdAgrA Conference in High Springs, FL and the 2025 conference in Glen Rose, TX.
Now residing, in the mountains of Central West Virginia, I have the privilege to delve deeper into farming, beekeeping, and foraging for wild medicinal plants and mushrooms. Embracing a simpler life, close to nature, has brought me nearer to God and filled my days with joy.
Through my courses and workshops, I aim to share this passion and offer insights that might save you from common gardening pitfalls. My greatest hope is that you, too, will experience that same sense of awe, inspiration, and connection as you gaze upon your own thriving gardens.
